The Assistant for Expert Traders is part of the SAFIR-X package that provides Decision Support tools based on Fuzzy Logic and Neural Networks. This software applies this technology to the difficult problem of Technical Analysis. It automatically builds trading systems that can be used in daily, weekly or intraday modes.
Starting from indicators and stock exchange data, the Assistant analyzes these data, extracts the internal knowledge and automatically builds a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) that can predict Buy or Sell orders. The predictor can then be used in real time inside your favorite Trading software.

To benefit from these capabilities, it is not necessary to have a knowledge of Fuzzy Logic and Neural Nets, but one thing is mandatory to obtain good results: you understand what Technical Analysis is. Indicators you feed the software with must be relevant and correlated as far as possible with the market conditions.

The portfolio paradigm
is implemented in the Assistant. It means you can use several trading data files to build up the fuzzy rule base and to test the performances of the fuzzy predictors.
· A new type of document, the portfolio composer (extension .pfo), allows you to define two portfolios, one of them will be used for the automatic search for solutions, the other one will be used to check the performances of the solutions. With the toolbar you can update the contents of these portfolios, launch a search or a check or a combination of both. In the latter case the check will immediately be performed after the search for solutions.
· When a portfolio contains more than one data file, a global Performance Summary is computed. It takes into account all the trades that are fired on single contracts. Similarly the Equity Curve represents the profit change of the whole portfolio.
New options may
improve the automatic search for solutions:
· You can force the software to keep bad candidates in the hope of getting better ones when the search progresses (Search widened). Another option allows you to enlarge the number of considered candidates (Candidate selection).
· Another new feature is the capability to start again an exploration from an existing node in the Solution Tree window. When you start working with new data files, you can limit the number of solutions to a small number (or limit the depth of exploration). The smart explore command will be quickly executed. If some nodes give interesting results, you may start a new search from them. If none of the solutions is profitable, it is better to edit the data files or to give up with this configuration.
You can now change the buy or sell orders that are part of the data files directly in The Assistant, without going back to TradeStation or another software.
You know that The Assistant is expecting to find for each bar a predefined trading position (buy or sell). This leads to a zigzag suite that links the tops and downs of the price chart.
When using the
SirTrade2000 templates to build the trading data files, you can
modulate the amplitude of these zigzags with some input parameters (dFactor
…) or you can let the software do it for you (easy versions). In
fact it often happens that the zigzags are not in adequacy with the
lags of the indicators. You can now change them. Two buttons in the
data file view allow you to increase (Z +) the number of zigzags (also
called theoritical trades) or to reduce it (Z -). After updating the
number of trades all you have to do is to click the Use it button to
validate your change.
